Personnel

The principals of SMITH-MILLER AND ASSOCIATES LTD. have demonstrated experience in organizing and managing large, multi-disciplinary teams, collection, classification and collation of environmental data and development databases. In addition, the principals and staff have strong working relationships with private industry, government ministries and agencies and non-government agencies located in northern Ontario.

Mr. Douglas R. Smith

Mr. Douglas R. Smith is a principal in this firm. Through is 30 years of involvement with resource management in northern Ontario, Mr. Miller has gained extensive experience in the organization and implementation of large, multi-disciplinary projects. He has developed strong ties and working relationships with the forest industry, government and non-government agencies, native groups and other resource sector organizations.

Mr. Douglas Smith has extensive experience in a wide range of studies and programs dealing with the inventory and interpretation of natural systems including terrestrial, aquatic and geophysical environments. Mr. Smith has been involved in numerous biophysical/biological assessment projects including : fish habitat assessment, development of a manual on the use of bioengineering alternatives for the stabilization of embankments; fish and benthic invertebrate sampling, fish population inventories, habitat mapping and impact assessments, and the assessment of the biological impacts of the mine tailings on natural environments.

Mr. Bruce Miller, B.Sc .F, R.P.F.

Mr. Bruce Miller is a Registered Professional Forester and also a principal of this firm. Mr. Miller has extensive experience in forest management, timber management planning, site remediation and revegetation, research and development trials, site planning, linear facilities route selection studies, literature reviews and Environmental Assessments studies in Ontario. He has been involved in numerous large multi-disciplinary Environmental Assessment projects in Ontario.

Mr. Bruce Miller has over 20 years experience in the management of natural systems and has been involved in a variety of consulting assignments for the forest and mining industries as well as the federal and provincial government and Ontario Hydro. Selected examples of his experience include : route selection and environmental impact assessment for 600 km of transmission line for Ontario Hydro; assessment of impacts and recommendation of rehabilitation measures at seven landing sites along the upper Kapuskasing River for Spruce Falls Inc.; preparation of a literature review on aspen management in the claybelt region of northeastern Ontario; and the development of evidence statements for the Ontario Forest Industry Association's submissions to the OMNR timber management environmental assessment hearings.
